Princeton Measurements Vibrating Sample Magnetometer

A more detailed description can be found in IRM Quarterly Vol. 5, No. 4.

The MicroVSM's (a.k.a. VSM2, and VSM3) are equipped with either a liquid helium cryostat or flowing helium gas furnace and a stepper motor that rotates the vibration head. This allows you to measure magnetization as a function of three independent variables: field, temperature, and orientation. Moment and remanence measurements as a function of temperature are useful for mineral identification through low temperature transition and curie point determinations, and anisotropy measurements help quantify particle orientations.

Here are links to more details regarding sample preparation and some examples of data generated with the MicroVSM.
